The Jessica Locke Firefighters Fund – a 501(c)3
organization – is dedicated to providing financial, medical and
emotional support to firefighting personnel in New York City. The Fund
uses charitable contributions to offer firefighters access to alternative
medical treatments for illness, injury, and post-traumatic stress disorders
associated with exposures during 9/11, as well as to seek donations of
supplies and materials necessary to rectify unacceptable conditions in
firehouses. Our activities are aimed at vigorously supporting firefighting
professionals through action and compassion.

This
is a true story of one woman’s journey to attend to the
well-being of firemen devastated by the loss of four members
of their Company and 339 of their brethren on September 11,
2001. It is about the ultimate rescue, for in a startling reversal
of roles the firefighters help to heal the author's own traumatic
past.
In a tone both poignant and thoughtful, Ms. Locke provides an
authentic, historical account of life in a New York City firehouse.
Her acceptance past the “big red doors” and a line
of battle-hardened firefighters is a heartwarming tribute to
how giving to others can become the ultimate experience of receiving. |

Background: |
Following the events of September 11,
2001, Jessica Locke repeatedly traveled from Boston to New York City
to volunteer her services as an Alexander Technique practitioner at
a firehouse near Ground Zero. With her personal and increasing awareness
of the long-term health needs of these brave men and women, the Jessica
Locke Firefighters Fund was created to advocate for the continued
support of firefighters.
The Fund is currently raising funds to open an alternative health
care center for firefighters plagued by illness and post-traumatic
stress as a result of exposure to toxic and hazardous conditions at
Ground Zero. |
A portion of the proceeds from Rescue
at Engine 32 will be used to assist FDNY firefighters affected
by 9/11 and the Jessica Locke Firefighters Fund. |
